Analytics: The Connective Tissue between Vision and Action presented by Carl Hoffmann
Tuesday, October 19 2010, 12:00pm - 1:00pm

No matter how brilliant a company’s strategic vision, it must be tested against how well the market will embrace it, how its supply chain can obtain the needed resources, and how much the company can invest in that strategy. Even then, the strategy will fail unless it is clear how to organize and motivate the workforce to take action. As obvious as it seems, companies regularly neglect the fact that whenever change is required, the impact on the workforce must be considered and calibrated to match the new requirements.

This session will present a disciplined methodology that most companies adopt to understand and act on the answers to four critical questions: (1) Is the work we want to accomplish well designed to support our company’s competitive strategy and have we clearly established what is required to do that work well? This question shifts the focus from what workers cost to how they can be organized to produce more and what capabilities they need to have to deliver. (2) Do we have an effective human capital supply chain filling the jobs with the right people, at the right time and cost? This question shifts the focus from controlling the cost of recruitment, hiring and training to measuring the benefits of those investments. (3) Is our workforce focused and engaged to achieve our strategy? This question shifts the conversation from narrowly measuring performance to understanding how the workers can improve their performance. (4) How can we innovate and test better ways to compete and respond to a rapidly changing environment? This question shifts the focus from benchmarking to looking for innovation within your company and testing its impact on business results.
