Fundamentally Rethinking HR Metrics and Workforce Analytics

In the last two decades, advances in computing technology, the widespread adoption of integrated human resource information systems, and the integration of the Internet into corporate life have fundamentally changed the cost and capability dynamics underlying HR metrics and workforce analytics. Unfortunately, most of the metrics used today were developed before these technological breakthroughs. As a result, the metrics we have are not necessarily the metrics we need. It's time we fundamentally rethink HR metrics and workforce analytics.

Kevin D. Carlson, PhD, Professor of Management, Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech.
Dr. Carlson's work has been published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Research Methods, and the Journal of Management. His current research interests include evaluating recruitment and staffing effectiveness, human resource metrics and workforce analytics, modeling the determinants of individual performance outcomes, knowledge structures and the development of competence, and the role of research methods in enabling research progress. He also currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Association for Human Resource Information Management (IHRIM).
